Your Questions About Best Home Based Businesses

Helen asks…

T1 MPLS vs 10MB VPN fiber cable both company based?

I currently have a T1 line over MPLS to another location. I am told that my speed should be 1.54 up and down. after checking the speed at speakeasy with their speed test, it shows that i’m only getting 0.6 down and 0.8 up. After speaking with charter business, they offered a fiber solution with 10MB down and 10MB up with a VPN in place of MPLS for a little more then what we pay now. This would mean the connection will be 10 times fater up and 16 times faster down. I know that most cable companies say that it’s up to a specific speed but even at half the speed it’s still a lot faster then what we are getting now. With this being a business account, we would still be able to get a static IP unlike most home cable ISP. With this being a fiber business line, if it went down, the SLA would have it back up quickly. Fiber is usually reliable and normally only effected by outside sources such as a tree falling. If this is the case the SLA would have technicians onsite and problem fixed with a few hours.

A little bit about this business. We need to go online and lookup information, we need to connect to our data center to transfer information back and forth. There has been periods of downtime which could be as much as 10 hours at a time of which would not effect us much. All of our data is kept at a data center and a few servers locally that only local users access. While we do transfer some secure information, most information transfered if sniffed would not be a big deal.

With this being said, Would it be best to go with the 10MB fiber solution, the T1 solutions which were already bottlenecking at, or another solutions? Why do you think the solution your recommending would be best? I thank you ahead of time for your help in this question.

Nagesh answers:

You are using MPLS over a T1 line. The T1 is a physical layer, and MPLS operates at the network layer over a data-link layer, which is probably IP in your case.
The information that you give does not allow me to make a decision about the relative merits of the two solutions. You mention that you can be down for 10 hours at a time and it does not cause much problem, that you do not need to worry about sniffing of your data, etc. I would want to have some information about the mean time between failures for both the fiber and the T1 solution, and the mean time to repair both solutions. On the surface, if the 10 Meg solution is not much more expensive than the T1 solution, and the fiber solution will run fewer errors than the T1 solution (which means that the effective bandwidth of the T1 is slower). Then it seems the best choice.
However.
If I was able to do a proper analysis of your business and the connections that you have and an analysis of your traffic, then I would be able to give you the proper network configuration and your Business Continuity Plan, your Disaster Recovery Plan, and the relative costs for each solution.

Susan asks…

ugghh! i really don’t know what i wanna be when i grow up!!!?

ok so i’m a freshman in h.s. and lately a lot of ppl have been asking me what i wanna be when i grow up and my school even took us to colleges so we can like see where we wanna go when the time comes. now i only have like 3 yrs left of h.s. cause this yr is almost over and i have NO IDEA of what i wanna be when i grow up! first i wanted to be a doctor, then a teacher, then a geologist, then a climatologist, the an earth science teacher, but now i really have NO CLUE! i DEFINATLY want to go to college but i guess i really don’t know what all my options are like career wise. my grades right now are:
adv. geometry- 104%
adv. eng.- 101%
pre chemistry-99%
speech-100%
spanish-98%
civics-98%
business-97%
home ec.-100%

what kind of fields based on my grades should i consider going into? what kind of career options would best suit me? and like i said i’m definatly without a doubt going to college so i’ll have even more career choices.

Nagesh answers:

Don’t go crazy. You don’t have to declare a major until you start your junior year of college. That leaves you 6 years to find what you really like. I didn’t even decide what I wanted to be until after I graduated college, spent 4 years in the Army and then went to law school. I opened a restaurant 3 years ago. Doesn’t make sense with what I have done, but I really enjoy it. Good lock!

Jenny asks…

Best gaming desktop for me?

Hello,

I’m looking to buy a new computer, and I was wondering what would be best for my needs.

I use my desktop mainly for gaming, so I need something relatively powerful. My previous computer was an Acer Predator, and it was a great gaming desktop.(It got fell off a table and is beyond repair, need a new computer).

I play games like WoW, CSS, Team Fortress 2, so nothing too heavy to handle for a decent computer. Im looking forward to playing Guild Wars 2 though, so I would like something with high definition and high performance graphics card. Im not into single player epics, more or less online cooperative games such as MMO’s or FPS’s.

I went to www.cyberpowerpc.com and created a computer on there, and this is the setup I ended up choosing for myself.

My budget is $3000-$4000, just tell me what you think is best, without anything unnecessarily overpowered, but able to handle future games and last me a long while, lets say 2 years without much problems.

Thanks!

I checked Alienware website, their computers are WAY overpriced, like 8k dollars, and they dont even have best processors to choose from on customization!

cyberpowerpc is where its at i bet.

Nagesh answers:

Cyberpower tends to get a lot of bad reviews. I’d avoid them, their machines aren’t put together well

Your 2nd best choice would be ibuypower.com. Your best choice is building your own

Laura asks…

What’s the best way to deal with a possessive irrational ex?

Here’s a letter he wrote me, Tell me what you think I should de, I totally feel THREATENED.

“I first want to say that I miss you and I love you and Lisa (btw: he’s referring to our daughter). I know that I made some wrong choices when I was home but at some point we have to get past that and move on with life. I know you may feel otherwise but I do love and accept Lisa as my daughter (btw he went back and forth claiming and denying her for years, she’s now 9, and has never supported her or been apart of her life). I made wrong choices based on what people told me and on things you did in the past but not based on my heart. Even though I never got the results of the DNA test I still use to go up to Lisa’s school to see her if I could because you wouldn’t open your door (btw I got ride of him along time ago once I realized that he had no interest in being a father or supporting my child). I’m coming home (btw he’s in jail) in January and I want us to be a family and I’m not trying to hear nothing else yall belong to me and that’s just the way it is. I do understand that we have alot to talk about but you have to understand that I’m sorry for the wrong choices I made. I have a better life now I own a business and I have a nice place, half of that belongs to yall. I had my time to play when I came home, I’m done, I want my family and I will die trying to rebuild what I ****** up. Give me my chance, you owe me that and I’m not trying to hear nothing else. I want yall to see who I have become on the streets while we were going through our differences and over this past year I been in here. You’ll really be proud. I swear I will never walk away from you again. I want to always walk with you no matter if were together or not. You will be my wife.”

Nagesh answers:

Um I’d be kinda cautious. It sounds like he’s doing the thinking & deciding for both of you whether you want that or or not. This is what I’d advise you to do since he’s coming off as strong arming you…
Do you know any large strong men that communicate well?Men respect other men more than they do women in certain cases. You need to have another man even a brother or some big @$$ guy other than yourself set your ex straight. The guy that you have help you needs to talk to your ex in person and spell it out for him that you want nothing to do with him.Tell him to not over explain it to your ex and don’t let him give your ex any reasons why either.Your ex needs to have no doubt in his mind that you do not want him in your life. You must be consistent in your behavior and don’t go all soft on him by thinking talking it out with him is going to make him understand you better.Tell him you don’t owe him $hit, not even to hear him apologize.Just say that everythings ok and that you really don’t care about him anymore. You don’t owe him anyrthing especially in light of how pushy & rude he sounds.Do what you have to do to protect yourself including going ahead and filing a police report stating that you want them to have it on record that this guy is getting out of the slammer and said he’s coming for you. The report will be assigned a case number so make sure you get that info before you leave. The letter he wrote sounds stalkerish. Report it to his parole officer immediately. After all of this if he persisits in bugging you then you’re going to have to be strong and come across as meaning everything that you say.Maybe move and definitely change your phone number! Good luck…
