How do you promote an e commerce site ? Get people to buy and not just browse ??
I really want to be a stay home mom and that means I have to get this business profiting ASAP but have limited funds. Did an Alexa search of related business to get most bang for my ad buck , got an adbrite account , joined google base, auctioning items on Amazon to lead people to my website , and placing free ads on craigs list ( which worked BEST of all for generating visits to my site ) . I need SALES ! I have been up and running 1 week and have 1 sale and 1 one customer hemming and hawing about price on a large ticket item.
Help please , I really want to stay home with baby . Not asking to be Bill Gates here just a small emergency income would be nice !
Nagesh answers:
Generating sales is different from generating traffic. You seem to be doing a lot in terms of getting traffic to the site, now you need to focus on how to get those visitors to buy from your site
Improving conversion involves:
– getting the right traffic who are interested in the products you offer
– building customer confidence and ensuring that the visitors feels confident in buying from your site
– improving product presentation which involves the quality of your pictures, having copy that elicits excitement in the product, and an easy navigation and shopping cart system
– maximizing after-sales opportunities such as ensuring smooth delivery of the items purchased, sending followup emails

Nagesh answers:
100% scam.
There is no job.
There is only a scammer trying to steal your hard-earned money.
The next email will be from another of the scammer’s fake names and free email addresses pretending to be the “secretary/assistant/accountant” and will demand you cash a large fake check sent on a stolen UPS/FedEx billing account number and send most of the “money” via Western Union or moneygram back to the scammer posing as the “supply company” while you “keep” a small portion. When your bank realizes the check is fake and it bounces, you get the real life job of paying back the bank for the bounced check fees and all the bank’s money you sent to an overseas criminal.
Western Union and moneygram do not verify anything on the form the sender fills out, not the name, not the street address, not the country, not even the gender of the receiver, it all means absolutely nothing. The clerk will not bother to check ID and will simply hand off your cash to whomever walks in the door with the MTCN# and question/answer. Neither company will tell the sender who picked up the cash, at what store location or even in what country your money walked out the door. Neither company has any kind of refund policy, money sent is money gone forever.
When you refuse to send him your cash he will send increasingly nasty and rude emails trying to convince you to go through with his scam. The scammer could also create another fake name and email address like “FBI@ gmail.com”, “police_person @hotmail.com” or “investigator @yahoo.com” and send emails telling you the job is legit and you must cash the fake check and send your money to the scammer or you will face legal action. Just ignore, delete and block those email addresses. Although, reading a scammer’s attempt at impersonating a law enforcement official can be extremely funny.
Now that you have responded to a scammer, you are on his ‘potential sucker’ list, he will try again to separate you from your cash. He will send you more emails from his other free email addresses using another of his fake names with all kinds of stories of great jobs, lottery winnings, millions in the bank and desperate, lonely, sexy singles. He will sell your email address to all his scamming buddies who will also send you dozens of fake emails all with the exact same goal, you sending them your cash via Western Union or moneygram.
You could post up the email address and the emails themselves that the scammer is using, it will help make your post more googlable for other suspicious potential victims to find when looking for information.
Do you know how to check the header of a received email? If not, you could google for information. Being able to read the header to determine the geographic location an email originated from will help you weed out the most obvious scams and scammers. Then delete and block that scammer. Don’t bother to tell him that you know he is a scammer, it isn’t worth your effort. He has one job in life, convincing victims to send him their hard-earned cash.
Whenever suspicious or just plain curious, google everything, website addresses, names used, companies mentioned, phone numbers given, all email addresses, even sentences from the emails as you might be unpleasantly surprised at what you find already posted online. You can also post/ask here and every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find before taking a chance and losing money to a scammer.
6 “Rules to follow” to avoid most fake jobs:
1) Job asks you to use your personal bank account and/or open a new one.
2) Job asks you to print/mail/cash a check or money order.
3) Job asks you to use Western Union or moneygram in any capacity.
4) Job asks you to accept packages and re-ship them on to anyone.
5) Job asks you to pay visas, travel fees via Western Union or moneygram.
6) Job asks you to sign up for a credit reporting or identity verification site.
Avoiding all jobs that mention any of the above listed ‘red flags’ and you will miss nearly all fake jobs. Only scammers ask you to do any of the above. No. Exceptions. Ever. For any reason.
If you google “fake check cashing job”, “fraud Western Union scam”, “check mule moneygram scam” or something similar you will find hundreds of posts from victims and near-victims of this type of scam.

Fannie & Freddie why not let our mortgages go free?
(I wrote a letter to my Senator back in July this exact question–no answer back!).
I want to know why the government will not let Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac “fail”? I would like to see the government take these over and these two “lending giants” (mostly government owned as it is) be completely government owned? The way I could see the situation is as follows: The government announces that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will continue to do business but they are no longer “stock owned corporations”, instead the government takes on the debt, distributes the $5 trillion as and “add on” to the already $9.6 Trillion deficit and the taxpayers (as they are now) and bail out each other. The difference being that any person who now has a mortgage purchased by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac (nearly 50% of all homeowners) would now be “debt free” with no mortgage. The other 50% of people, are the ones that do not comply with Fannie or Freddie guidelines (such as “liar loans”/stated income loans and such… they do not deserve to be “bailed out” as they took on more this than they should have).
The kicker is that no one really knows if their loan is actually owned by Fannie or Freddie, so it’s kind of like the “hot list”. The next part would be to add on a Federal Tax that would be set up as a “lock box” (as Mr. Gore proposed), the Federal Tax could be calculated to a certain percentage on all homes based off the current assessed values and then each year for, lets say, the next 10 years this tax would go DIRECTLY to paying off the debt taken on by the government for “bailing out” the homeowners. (Make sure some good actuaries’ are hired–that’s the tough part).
Here is the best part, now nearly 50% of all persons who now own a home are now mortgage free! This would be a real “stimulus package”, with a savings of (if the loans were underwritten the way they were supposed to be) 33% of a person’s income (suggested mortgages shouldn’t be more that 33% of a person’s gross income).
So the solution is 1. Take on Fannie and Freddie at a federal level–they set the rules. 2. Give a break to the people who have one of these mortgages (they shouldn’t have to pay it back twice over)–i.e. distribute the burden. 3. Raise a Federal Tax to pay the debt back via a Federal Real Estate Tax, with a set time period for this deficit to be paid back. This would cause an immediate increase in spending, taxes, and economic growth…

Unfortunately mortgages are too complicated to just let go free. On the other hand, they probably are crooked and just don’t care.

Need help deciding if I would like Six Feet Under?
I have been wanting to buy HBO’s Six Feet Under on DVD, and Best Buy has a great deal right now on the complete series. I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out if I would like the show based on other shows I like.
My favorite show right now is Dexter on Showtime. I love Michael C. Hall and since he is also in Six Feet Under, I figured that I would like it too. I also like Weeds, True Blood, Californication. I know that Six Feet Under deals with a family funeral home business or something, but other then that I know nothing about the show. If you could let me know if you think I would like it based on the other shows I said I liked, and also what type of show Six Feet Under is and if you liked it or not. Thanks in Advanced!!
Nagesh answers:
Based on your fav. Shows, then yes you will like SFU. SFU is based around the Fisher family who owns and operates a funeral home. Each episode starts with showing the death of someone and the eventual funeral that the Fishers handle. The Fisher family is dysfunctional (who’s family isnt?) yet fascinating. It shows them dealing with their everyday lives, loves, losses, hopes and dreams. It is simply one of the best tv series made to date in my opinion. The series finale is the best I have ever, ever seen on tv. You will get sucked into the drama of their lives, trust me.
But i will warn you that there is lots of sex. Some of it is gay sex. So if you are uncomfortable with that, then either fast forward thru it or skip buying the series. I say buy it! Here is link on amazon so you can read other reviews if you want. By the way, i bought my set off amazon about a year ago for $60 so if you can wait, check amazon occasionally, as their prices fluctuate.
