What is the best and little to no cost way to market a new cleaning business?
I just opened a cleaning business based from home with a partner of mine. We have advertised in a local flyer magizine and have passed out flyers in neighborhoods. Only a few calls came from the flyer magizine but nothing has come from the flyers that we passed out. What is the best way to market the business with little to no cost? Also, does anyone know how to book clients as regulars instead of one time cleanings… and what are good prices we should set for them? Please help ASAP!!!

Word of mouth is big in the small cleaning business. If you do a good job at fair prices and are trustworthy your name will be passed to friends and family of clients. To start with I would drop off the fliers or cards at local restaurants. Be sure to tell everyone you know that you’re starting a cleaning business. Also try putting some ads on craigslist.com . For pricing figure your time is worth 20 to 35 dollars an hour per person. Do a few cleanings to see how long it takes. Good luck.

Most of these firms do a free service to entice to to sign up to a more enhanced paid one. You can also do a search on your favourite search engine – type in”Free web site submission” and see what comes up.

Submitting your site to search engines won’t really help you, you’ll be much better off letting the search engines find your site naturally via a few links. For an explanation of why, check out http://www.adambunn.co.uk/search-engine-submission.php
Getting links pointing to your site is a crucial part of ‘Search Engine Optimisation’ (or SEO for short), which you will need to read up about.
Basic SEO isn’t difficult but there is a lot of knowledge to swallow. Because this question gets asked so much here at Yahoo! Answers, I’ve written a basic guide to SEO which is freely available for download at http://www.adambunn.co.uk/seo-beginners.php
Sometimes you will get away with the basic knowledge in my little book and sometimes you will need a lot more help from a professional; it all depends on what market you are in.

Business Directory/Local Portal Home Business Opportunity…looks good…do you think I can succeed with it?
I have been investigating a popular home based business opportunity, which is operating a local business directory and portal for my city. I would make money by selling featured listings and banner ads, as well as with built-in affiliate programs and the best part is that it doesn’t require any programming knowledge (since I don’t have any!).
Anyhow, the one with the best appearance and features seems to the www.yourcityguide.net. They pre-load the website with all my local businesses and have many other great features. I’m wondering if anyone has any experience with them or operates a city guide themselves. Do you think I have a good chance of success considering the minimal investment?

Don’t listen to people on here. There really isn’t an easy and simple way to make money from home through anything that they suggest to you. Most of them are pyramid scams or require you to hound your friends and family to buy things from you; not really things that most of us want to participate in.
If you want to start a home business, start a business out of your home. You can become a writer and submit articles for newspapers/magazines/websites, start your own consulting business, or run a daycare out of your home.
If you don’t mind a bit of adult work, you can work at home by becoming a phone actress/actor or starting your own adult website that has a membership service.
