Your Questions About Best Home Based Businesses

David asks…

I need help with home work?

Question 3 – Mortgages (20 marks)
The sovereign debt crisis in Europe and a slowing US economy have dented consumer and business confidence in the western world. There has been an increase in talks of a possible recession in the U.S and the likely effects of it on the Canadian economy. In the midst of this, your family friend Ms. Hazel Diego and her fiancé have decided to purchase their dream home. Their dream home is listed for $900,000; if they decide to purchase the house this week they can get an additional $30,000 off the list price. They do not want to pay CMHC (Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation) insurance premium and have decided to make a 25% down payment (which is 5% higher than the minimum required to avoid the insurance premium).
Hazel and her fiancé follow macro events globally and have friends that work in the investment industry. Based on their own research and recommendation made by friends they feel we potentially have a banking crisis unfolding in Europe and that the US will either go into a recession or at best be in stall speed (1%-2% GDP growth) for several years. The banking crisis in Europe coupled with a recession/stall speed in the U.S will lead to a global economic slowdown and potentially reduce the demand for commodities and other services. This global slowdown can negatively affect the Canadian economy, which in turn will force the Bank of Canada to keep interest rates at current levels or do further monetary easing.
Following are the two mortgage rates offered by a local bank in Toronto that they can choose to finance their purchase:
1. 5-year fixed rate mortgage at 3.95% or
2. 5-year variable rate mortgage at prime minus 0.50%.
Hazel knows you are taking ADMS 3530 at York University and she has come to you for advice. Below are the questions she needs help with:
Questions:

a) How much will be the principal outstanding on the mortgage at the end of five years under the two options? (10 marks)

b) If Hazel and her fiancé decide to increase their bi-weekly payments by $50, how much sooner can they expect to be mortgage-free under both the scenarios? (10 marks)

Assume prime rate in Canada is 3.0%, mortgage payments are bi-weekly, amortization period is twenty-five years and interest rates stay at current levels over the next five years.

TEENS: Would this story opening make you want to read on? How old would you say I am based on my writing style?

Would this story opening make you want to read on?
How old would you say I am based on my writing style (not the content or plot, the actual style)

This is just the beginning of chapter one. Its something I’m writing based on an idea from my 13-year-old cousin.

ONE
First Day

“It’s just until we find another placement, honey,” said my mother, turning to face me. “I promise you won’t be here for too long.”

I hoped she was right. The idea of going to a state school for more than a few weeks was terrifying. I was a private school girl, born and bred, with no idea of how to survive in such an institute as this. My hands clutched the seatbelt tightly.

“Mom, please don’t make me do this. Can’t we just get a home tutor like before, please? Or you could send us abroad. That’s what all the other Cloverfield kids are doing” I begged.

“No, Brianna. It’s all been sorted out, now. I will find you both a better school as soon as I can, but I’m really very busy right now with the business.”

“I don’t mind, mom,” said my twin brother, Brody. “Brie’s just being silly.”

“Silly?” I exclaimed. He clearly wasn’t aware of the seriousness of our situation. “Silly? Brody, don’t you know what happens to private school kids in state schools?”

“Um, they make friends, have a good time and live happily ever after?” he shrugged.

“No! They get eaten alive!”

Brody laughed. He definitely didn’t know of the realities of American schools. I’d watched every high school movie in preparation for this, and I’d come to the conclusion that we’d either be social outcasts or we’d be savaged by a mutant science teacher.

“Daddy!” I whined. That worked every time.

“I’m sorry, sweetheart.”

Except for this time.

“But, daddy! I can’t do this. I can’t go to state school. They’ll hate me. The smart kids and the new kids are always the pariahs, and I’m smart and new!” I cringed as I realised how boastful that sounded.

“Listen, sweetie, you know that I’ve tried. I tried to fund the rebuild of your old school after the arson attack, but the authorities wanted to build a mall in its place. I tried to apply to Walterson, but they only accept applications in the fall. I really did try,” he tried to reason with me.

I groaned. There was absolutely no way I was getting out of going to Caspar Hills High School. If I ever found out who burned down Cloverfield Prep, I would make them pay.

“Now come on, I need you two to hurry. Your mother and I need to pick out the colour scheme for the new restaurant chain.”

I stayed firmly put.

“I’ll buy you that encyclopaedia set thing that you’ve been wanting on my way back,” he said in a singsong voice.

Bribery was something that usually didn’t worked with me because I wasn’t into the same things as normal girls – make-up and clothes – but I knew that the encyclopaedias would make a fantastic addition to my reference library. Plus, I would probably need all the help I could get now I was in this place. After quickly checking my reflection in the mirror and running my hands through my long auburn locks, I unbuckled by seatbelt, and slowly opened the door. A crowd of people were standing around my father’s black Porsche, staring at it intently. I was always amazed by how kids were fascinated by expensive stuff.

Someone I recognised pushed their way through the crowd. “Brie?”

My heart leapt as soon as I saw the familiar tousled brown hair. “Jesse!” I ran over to him and threw my arms around his neck. I was so pleased that I knew someone in this hell other than Brody. Jesse Daniels was Brody’s best friend. We’d known him since we were toddlers.

“Hey, Jesse,” Brody called appearing beside me.

“See, it’s not all bad here, darling,” my mother called from the car, “We’ll be back to pick you up at 3, okay? Love you!”

My father drove off before I had a chance to object. As soon as the car pulled away, the crowd surrounded me, talking at me. I couldn’t make any of it out, but it sure was giving me a headache.

“YO!” Jesse yelled. The crowd went silent. “Give the girl some space.” He pulled Brody and I away from the excited teens.

“Thanks, Jess.” I said, smoothing out my clothes.

“No problem, Brie. But, what are you guys doing here anyway? Community service?”

“Actually, no.” Brody told him, “Didn’t you hear? Cloverfield burned down. Someone torched the place.”

“Seriously? That’s harsh.”

“What’s harsher is that we’ve been sent to this dump” I said, gesturing towards the large stone building. “No offence,” I added as an afterthought.

“None taken.” Jesse grinned. He ran his hands through his hair as he looked around. “It looks like a dump, but it’s really not that bad. I mean, they don’t serve us lunch on silver platters …” he trailed off and smirked.

I gave him a playful shove. “You know they don’t do that at Cloverfield.”

“I know. I think you’ll like it here, Brie. I really do.
Basic plot:
Brianna and Brody’s private school is destroyed in a fire, and they are forced to move to the nearest public school – Caspar Hills High. Luckily, they already know Jesse Daniels, one of CHH’s pupils, and he teaches them the ins and outs of life at CHH. The principal puts Brianna on the student council, where she meets Hayden Evans, the most popular girl in school. She is surprisingly nice, and after Brianna gives her some tips, they become acquaintances (but not “friends”). She introduces Brianna to her long-term boyfriend Dexter Ward (CHH’s most popular boy) and his sister Aaryn Ward. Aaryn is unique and she and Brianna become good friends. Brianna becomes enemies with freshman Skylar Carnaby when Skylar gets her in trouble by cheating off her in a test. As punishment, Brianna has to do volunteer work for the spring showcase. There, she meets Nathaniel Carnaby – the gorgeous lead in the showcase and Skylar’s brother.
Basic Plot Continued:
There, she meets Nathaniel Carnaby – the gorgeous lead in the showcase and Skylar’s brother. When the showcase co-director quits, Brianna is chosen to be the replacement and Skylar tries to sabotage the showcase at every opportunity. Brianna is forced to deal with the stress of a being at a new school where she is basically pretty much a social outcast, running a showcase and falling for a boy who she believes is way too amazing to like her.
I used spell check. I live in the UK, and we spell words differently over here.
Suggestions?

Nagesh answers:

Looks all right, but it seems kind of generic. The characters are all very flat and two dimensional.

As a note, the “Authorities” as you say would have very little to say about what goes on with the land, because as a private school, the land is, well privately owned, and as such would probably not be traded off for a minimall, because it’s a great way for whosoever runs the school to make business connections with the local wealthy families. However reconstructing the school would take some time, depending on the size.

Also, as such, the Arson of such a building would cause a need for investigation. The investigation could even serve as a neat sideplot. Of course there’d need to be some sort of twist. Maybe Nathan’s in the employ of I dunno, a drug cartel, or involved with human trafficking, and the organization was using Cloverfield’s basement for some nefarious deeds. Or perhaps her brother was in the employ of the school’s owner, who when his business starts going under, torches the school for insurance money.

Or none of those things. Maybe it’s the vengeful spirit of a girl driven to suicide, or the school was built on an indian burial ground.

What I’m saying is you have a good base for your story broth, but you need to add some spices to either add new “flavors”, or accentuate those already there.

And just in case, yes that was a metaphor comparing making a soup and writing a story.

Also I’d say you’re somewhere between the ages of 12 and 17.

Helen asks…

How do I find a travel agent to assist me in my online business?

My wife and I will be launching an online business very soon to take advantage of the growth in the trend of homebased travel agents. However, I need someone with travel agent experience to help with training and support of new travel agents. When I search online for “hire a travel agent” there are plenty of travel agents who sell travel products and services. But I cannot find any that want employment (I can do this for most other occupations…like “hire an accountant”).

The travel agent I hire simply needs to have a desire to help people. They would simply answer questions from new travel agents about the best way to book travel. They do not need to relocate (they can work from home) or quit their job.

How do I find a person who meets this description?

Nagesh answers:

I havent been a travel agent professionally, however I am a 21 year old college student who travels frequently. I am keen at making affordable deals and quality for the buck. Mother was working with several airlines as a reservationist, so have hands-on-knowledge. If interested email me for more info.
